About Support for Families of Children with Disabilities

Support for Families of Children with Disabilities (SFCD) is a parent-run San Francisco-based nonprofit organization. Since 1982, Support for Families has helped tens of thousands of families and professionals in San Francisco obtain the information, resources, and support they need – free of charge. SFCD ensures that families of children with any kind of disability or special health care need and the providers who serve them have the knowledge and support to make informed choices that enhance children’s development and well-being. Support for Families provides and maintains up-to-date information and resources about specific disabilities, navigating systems, current research, best practices for care, laws and regulations for family centered care, and inclusion. SFCD offers a wide variety of free educational workshops, clinics, peer groups, and special family events. Support for Families focuses on families building their capacity to be leaders, help each other, work collaboratively, and have their voices heard. The work of SFCD is even more essential in these challenging times as new needs arise and fewer resources are available. Support for Families has quickly adapted during COVID-19 to continue providing services and resources both online and via printed materials for thousands of families. SFCD promotes partnership with families, professionals, and the community at large to create a community where our children can flourish. Everyone is welcome at Support for Families!
