Mrs. Claus’ Sugar Cookies
Santa’s favorite! Bake with family and friends and try to leave some leftovers for Santa.
Ingredients:
For the Cookies:
- 4 oz. unsalted butter
- 1 ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 egg
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
For the Frosting:
- 1 ¾ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- Milk as needed
- Food coloring, if desired
Method:
- Dice butter and rub together with the flour and cream of tartar until well combined.
- Beat egg with sugar, baking soda, salt, and vanilla. Add to the flour mixture and mix until combined. It’s ideal to chill dough for an hour
- Once the dough is chilled, roll out with a rolling pin to about 1/4 inch. Cut with desired cookie cutters and place on a greased sheet pan. Bake at 375°F for 10 minutes.
- Remove cookies from the oven and chill on a baking rack.
- To make the frosting, mix together the powder sugar, vanilla, and butter.
- Slowly add milk using just enough until the frosting becomes creamy, about 2-3 tablespoons. Divide the frosting into as many bowls as colors you want to make and frost the cookies.
- Decorate! Frost the chilled cookies however you’d like.
