Late Night Pinot Noir Harvest

Estate harvest has arrived. The fast-paced pick begins once the sun sets. According to Tom Pierson, our associate winemaker, night picking has become standard practice for most Sonoma and Napa vineyards. Night picking is essential to keeping the grapes cool and is beneficial for the winemaking process. “It protects the grapes from any kind of spoilage.” The temperature during the pick was in the 50s,” Pierson said. “There can be a 40-degree difference (from daytime).”

The dedicated team from Advanced Viticulture tackled Block 2 of our Pinot Noir block on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023 from 10 pm to 4 am. We harvested more than 15 tons of estate pinot noir grapes. We tried to capture the excitement of a late-night/early-morning pick.
