Family Garden Day with Farmer Mikey

Gardening Made Fun for the Whole Family

This April, we hosted our very first Family Garden Class with Farmer Mikey! Families gathered on a sunny Saturday morning and were greeted with glasses of Isla Rose Brut Rosé before heading out to the gardens.

The first stop of the day was our Secret Garden, tucked behind rows of Pinot Noir vines. It’s one of four culinary gardens on our estate and home to a variety of seasonal produce and flowers. During the class, families planted potatoes in the raised garden beds, which will be ready to harvest in about two to three months. The kids had fun picking out which potatoes they got to plant in the garden beds, and even more fun covering them with dirt!

The next stop was heading over to our front gardens, where our culinary team visits daily to gather fresh produce and garnishes. Here, Farmer Mikey taught the kids how to dig holes, enrich the soil with compost and fertilizer, and plant tomato starts. By summer, we’ll be enjoying those tomatoes fresh off the vine and in delicious dishes like our pizzas and salads.

The day wrapped up with a picnic lunch and a scavenger hunt through the garden. As a special treat, the kids got to say hi to our tiniest vineyard residents: our new baby chicks!

We love creating experiences that get our hands dirty and bring us closer to nature. Be sure to join us for our upcoming Garden Summer Harvest Class with Farmer Mikey in July, where we’ll be focusing on harvest techniques. You might even get to pick the very potatoes and tomatoes we planted this spring!

While our Harvest Class is geared towards adults, we are looking forward to our Family Style Dinners returning this summer!
