Mrs. Claus’ Sugar Cookies

Santa’s favorite! Bake with family and friends and try to leave some leftovers for Santa.

Ingredients:

For the Cookies:

  • 4 oz. unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla

For the Frosting:

  • 1 ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • Milk as needed
  • Food coloring, if desired

Method:

  1. Dice butter and rub together with the flour and cream of tartar until well combined.
  2. Beat egg with sugar, baking soda, salt, and vanilla. Add to the flour mixture and mix until combined.  It’s ideal to chill dough for an hour
  3. Once the dough is chilled, roll out with a rolling pin to about 1/4 inch.  Cut with desired cookie cutters and place on a greased sheet pan. Bake at 375°F for 10 minutes.
  4. Remove cookies from the oven and chill on a baking rack.
  5. To make the frosting, mix together the powder sugar, vanilla, and butter.
  6.   Slowly add milk using just enough until the frosting becomes creamy, about 2-3 tablespoons. Divide the frosting into as many bowls as colors you want to make and frost the cookies.
  7. Decorate! Frost the chilled cookies however you’d like.

Bon Appétit
