Bricoleur

One who starts building something with no clear plan, adding bits here and there, cobbling together a whole while flying by the seat of their pants.

GET TO KNOW

Our CEO & Co-Founder

A visionary leader with deep Sonoma roots, Sarah Citron blends creativity, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit in her role as Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Bricoleur Vineyards. After six years in digital commerce with Tory Burch and Theory in New York, Sarah returned home to co-found Bricoleur alongside her parents - continuing a family legacy that traces back to her great-great-grandfather Pietro Carlo Rossi, who helped shape California winemaking in the 19th century as the original oenologist for the Italian Swiss Colony.

At Bricoleur, Sarah’s fashion and design background informs her thoughtful approach to hospitality, branding, and guest experience. Since Bricoleur Vineyards inception in 2017, Sarah has guided the winery’s development across every touchpoint - from the tasting room and culinary program to creative events and partnerships and has been the driving force behind Bricoleur’s evolution into a modern lifestyle brand that celebrates community, creativity, and connection. Her leadership emphasizes inclusivity and innovation, with initiatives like family-friendly experiences, non-alcoholic beverage offerings, and elevated gifting programs that reflect her belief that wine country should be welcoming to all. A natural storyteller, Sarah has helped bring Bricoleur’s vision to life through features on The Today Show and other national platforms, showcasing her commitment to creating meaningful, authentic experiences that celebrate Sonoma’s contemporary spirit.

In 2023, at age 32, Sarah was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. Through a challenging journey of treatment and recovery, she continued to lead with optimism and purpose - launching Sip With Purpose, Bricoleur’s philanthropic campaign supporting cancer research through the V Foundation. Today, at 35, she is cancer-free and a passionate advocate for survivorship, early testing, and continued investment in life-saving research. The winery’s Isla Rose Brut Rosé, named for her daughter, honors both her journey and the strength of women everywhere.

Recognized by North Bay Business Journal’s “40 Under 40,” Sarah represents the next generation of wine country leadership - visionary, community-driven, and grounded in legacy. Her creative approach continues to transform Bricoleur Vineyards into a place where artistry, sustainability, and heartfelt hospitality meet. Through new guest experiences, thoughtful brand collaborations, and purpose-driven initiatives, she’s helping shape not only Bricoleur’s story, but the evolving identity of Sonoma wine country itself.

Sonoma Through and Through

The Legacy

For many generations, our family has worked in both the Italian and American wine industries. Most notably, Bricoleur Co-founder & CEO Sarah Citron’s great-great-grandfather, Pietro Carlo Rossi, was the original oenologist at Sonoma County’s historic Italian Swiss Colony. Trained as a chemist in Piemonte, Italy, Rossi revolutionized California winemaking in the 19th century and was recognized in France for the quality of his Zinfandel and sparkling wine.

Under Rossi’s direction, the Italian Swiss Colony became one of America’s leading wineries. Succeeding generations of the Rossi family carried on the family legacy, and many members of Sarah’s extended family continue to work in California wine. That now includes members of the Hanson family, who are proud to be collaborating to make Bricoleur Vineyards the next great Russian River Valley estate.

OUR HISTORY

Through the Years

Bricoleur Vineyards Estate was acquired

2015

In 2015, the property that would become Bricoleur Vineyards was purchased. The vision was to create a place where people could gather, connect, and savor life’s simple pleasures. This was the first step in bringing Bricoleur Vineyards to life.

Bricoleur Vineyards released its first vintage

2017

The property’s mature vines made it possible to release Bricoleur's first wines in 2017. The debut lineup included the Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir, Estate Chardonnay, Estate Pinot Noir, and Alexander Valley Zinfandel.

Kick Ranch Vineyard was acquired

2018

Kick Ranch is a 40-acre sustainably farmed vineyard on the western slope of Spring Mountain, near the Napa County line. Part of the Fountaingrove District AVA, its rich volcanic soils and varied terrain make it ideal for growing diverse varietals. Acquiring this property allowed us to expand our portfolio with Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier, and more.

Pavilion construction complete

2019

Co-founder Elizabeth Wall sketched the original vision for the Pavilion on a napkin, drawing inspiration from European stonework and timeless gathering spaces. Completed in 2019, it has become one of the most used areas on the property, hosting tastings, celebrations, and unforgettable moments.

Bricoleur Vineyards grand opening

2020

In May 2020, we opened our doors in the midst of the pandemic. Embracing the moment, we adapted quickly with socially distanced outdoor tastings, creating a safe and welcoming experience that marked the start of something special.

Bricoleur named One of the Best New Wineries by USA Today

2022

Bricoleur was named one of the Best New Wineries in the country by USA Today. This honor celebrated our commitment to exceptional wine, warm hospitality, and creating memorable experiences in Sonoma County.

SIp With Purpose

2023

Bricoleur launched Sip with Purpose, a philanthropic initiative inspired by Co-Founder & CEO Sarah Citron’s breast cancer diagnosis. Rooted in resilience and hope, it is our way of giving back, supporting cancer research through curated events, community partnerships, and the Isla Rose Brut Rosé, which donates $5 to the V-foundation for every bottle purchased.

Bricoleur celebrates 5 year anniversary of opening

2025

Bricoleur celebrates five years since opening our doors. What began as a vision rooted in family, community, and connection has grown into a vibrant destination where wine, food, and hospitality come together to create lasting memories.
