Bricoleur

One who starts building something with no clear plan, adding bits here and there, cobbling together a whole while flying by the seat of their pants.

GET TO KNOW

Our Story

Bricoleur Vineyards launched its first vintage in 2017 and opened its tasting room in 2020. It is tucked away in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley – just south of Healdsburg. Founded by the Hanson family, Bricoleur Vineyards can be found at the end of a winding road in the charming, bucolic town of Windsor, only an hour north of San Francisco – and very close to the Santa Rosa airport. The distinctive name, “Bricoleur,” is French for one who starts building something with no clear plan, adding bits here and there, cobbling together a whole while flying by the seat of their pants.

Together, the chefs and winemakers collaborate closely to create Perfect Pairings that express the seasonality of the estate’s sustainably farmed culinary garden, which won Slow Food International’s Snail of Approval for growing good, clean, and fair food.

Bricoleur Vineyards has been featured on The TODAY Show, and they have been honored by USA Today as one of the 10 Best New Wineries in the country.

Sonoma Through and Through

The Legacy

For many generations, our family has worked in both the Italian and American wine industries. Most notably, Beth Wall Hanson’s great grandfather, Pietro Carlo Rossi, was the original oenologist at Sonoma County’s historic Italian Swiss Colony. Trained as a chemist in Piemonte, Italy, Rossi revolutionized California winemaking in the 19th century and was recognized in France for the quality of his Zinfandel and sparkling wine.

Under Rossi’s direction, the Italian Swiss Colony became one of America’s leading wineries. Succeeding generations of the Rossi family carried on the family legacy, and many members of Beth’s extended family continue to work in California wine. That now includes members of the Hanson family, who are proud to be collaborating to make Bricoleur Vineyards the next great Russian River Valley estate.

OUR HISTORY

Through the Years

The Hanson family acquires the estate

2015

In 2015, the property that would become Bricoleur Vineyards was purchased. The vision was to create a place where people could gather, connect, and savor life’s simple pleasures. This was the first step in bringing Bricoleur Vineyards to life.

Bricoleur Vineyards released its first vintage

2017

The property’s mature vines made it possible to release Bricoleur's first wines in 2017. The debut lineup included the Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir, Estate Chardonnay, Estate Pinot Noir, and Alexander Valley Zinfandel.

Kick Ranch Vineyard was acquired

2018

Kick Ranch is a 40-acre sustainably farmed vineyard on the western slope of Spring Mountain, near the Napa County line. Part of the Fountaingrove District AVA, its rich volcanic soils and varied terrain make it ideal for growing diverse varietals. Acquiring this property allowed us to expand our portfolio with Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier, and more.

Pavilion construction complete

2019

Co-founder Beth sketched the original vision for the Pavilion on a napkin, drawing inspiration from European stonework and timeless gathering spaces. Completed in 2019, it has become one of the most used areas on the property, hosting tastings, celebrations, and unforgettable moments.

Bricoleur Vineyards grand opening

2020

In May 2020, we opened our doors in the midst of the pandemic. Embracing the moment, we adapted quickly with socially distanced outdoor tastings, creating a safe and welcoming experience that marked the start of something special.

Bricoleur named One of the Best New Wineries by USA Today

2022

Bricoleur was named one of the Best New Wineries in the country by USA Today. This honor celebrated our commitment to exceptional wine, warm hospitality, and creating memorable experiences in Sonoma County.

SIp With Purpose

2023

Bricoleur launched Sip with Purpose, a philanthropic initiative inspired by Co-Founder Sarah’s breast cancer diagnosis. Rooted in resilience and hope, it is our way of giving back, supporting cancer research through curated events, community partnerships, and the Isla Rose Brut Rosé, which donates $5 to the V-foundation for every bottle purchased.

Bricoleur celebrates 5 year anniversary of opening

2025

Bricoleur celebrates five years since opening our doors. What began as a vision rooted in family, community, and connection has grown into a vibrant destination where wine, food, and hospitality come together to create lasting memories.
