Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate

  • Tasting Notes

The structure and style is based on the Rosés of Provence; classic, light, elegant, and delicate. The first thing you notice about the Bricoleur Vineyards Rosé is its beautiful pale-melon color. The wine has a supple texture and crisp minerality. Notes of peach and yellow plum are accented by bright acidity and Meyer lemon leading to an elegant finish. It is produced from 100% Russian River Valley appellation estate-grown Pinot Noir.

It is absolutely perfect for year-round enjoyment.

  • Vineyard Notes

Harvest 2017 was quite the year for winemaking in Sonoma County and provided Bricoleur Vineyards with another strong vintage of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir grapes. The historic drought which plagued the region for several harvests finally broke in a big way with almost triple the normal amount of rainfall that year!

The pace of the growing season started off about two weeks behind normal and we had no frost events. Yet, an unusually warm June and July brought us back to back to normal progression of grape maturity. The first part of August brought some cooler nights with the return of the fog, slowing the ripening of the fruit. After an extreme heat wave at the end of August, the Pinot Noir for our Rosé was picked at the optimum Brix level on the night of August 31st.

  • Winemaking Notes

This vintage of Rosé is made from estate-grown Pinot Noir, which is sustainably farmed in the Russian River Valley appellation. The hand-picked fruit was carefully selected and night-harvested at the exact moment when the fruit reached the right maturity and acid levels to craft an elegant, delicate style of Rosé. The grapes were delivered to Punchdown Cellars on the morning of August 31, 2017.

The grapes were whole cluster pressed until the perfect color was achieved. The resulting Pinot Noir juice was settled for two days and then racked to 75-gallon stainless barrels for a three-week cool fermentation. After fermentation, the wine was left to age sur lie in the barrels for six months. The Rosé was filtered and bottled on March 13, 2018.

    Robert Parker

“The 2017 Rosé Estate Vineyard is very
pale salmon in color with a subdued nose of chopped green herbs, starfruit and underripe kiwi with notes of white pepper and faint red berries. Dry and light-bodied, there’s good concentration of red berries flavors in the mouth, and it has refreshing acidity. 60 cases produced.”
