Apiary

Situated near the winery barn, our apiary is home to thousands of honey bees that find endless food sources throughout Bricoleur Vineyards. Bees are a farmer’s best friend, pollinating plants that produce flowers and fruit. The Bricoleur apiary began in 2017 and features beehives close to the pond, fruit trees, and flower gardens. Although bees are not needed to pollinate grape vines, they play an important role in the annual life cycle of a sustainable vineyard.

Bees are the primary pollinators for cover crops grown between the vines, which naturally replenish important soil nutrients. Bees are the primary pollinators for cover crops grown between the vines, which naturally replenish important soil nutrients. As bees gather pollen and nectar, they pollinate these crops, making them lush, healthy, and able to efficiently return nutrients to the soil. Bees also help other beneficial insects feel safe. Our beekeeper can extract as much as 50 pounds of honey per year, depending on conditions. The estate honey is used for occasional wine tastings and farm-to-table dinners.
